⚠️ How Can a Fire Start Due to Excessive Power Consumption?

  • Overloaded wires or fuses
    If you connect devices that demand more amps than the wiring or fuse can handle, the wire may overheat. Without the proper fuse, that heat can melt the insulation and cause a short circuit.

  • Use of low-quality inverters or adapters
    Some cheap inverters lack protection against overloads or voltage spikes. This can create electrical arcs or thermal failures.

  • Poorly done installations
    Improperly connected wires, missing terminals, or lack of vibration protection can cause loose connections and sparks.

  • Faulty or overcharged batteries
    A defective or overcharged battery can release flammable gases like hydrogen. If a spark occurs nearby... you know the rest.

🔍 Practical Example

Suppose you connect a laptop (120W), an external radio (50W), and a fast charger (30W) to the same 12V port:

  • Total: 200W ÷ 12V = 16.6 amps

  • If the cigarette lighter fuse is 10A or 15A, you are exceeding it

  • If the fuse doesn’t blow or was replaced with one of higher capacity without upgrading the wiring, the cable may dangerously overheat

🔒 How to Prevent It?

  • Use proper fuses and never replace them with a higher-amp fuse without checking the wire gauge.

  • Install relays and thermal protection if you’re connecting high-consumption equipment.

  • Make sure inverters have overload, short-circuit, and over-temperature protection.

  • Don’t connect multiple high-consumption devices to the same point without calculating the total load.
