The water pump is one of the most essential components of a vehicle’s cooling system. Although it often goes unnoticed, its proper functioning is vital to keep the engine temperature at optimal levels and prevent serious damage.

The water pump is a mechanical device that circulates coolant (antifreeze) through the engine and radiator. Its main purpose is to maintain a stable engine temperature, preventing overheating.

Impeller: A rotor with blades that spins rapidly to move the coolant.

Housing: Usually made of aluminum or cast iron, it protects the impeller and directs the flow of the liquid.

Pulley or gear: Connected to the engine belt (serpentine or timing belt), it transmits movement to the impeller.

Mechanical seal: Prevents leaks between the rotating shaft and the housing.
The coolant flows from the radiator into the engine, absorbing the heat generated by combustion. It then returns to the radiator, where it cools down before repeating the cycle.
